What you need to know:
If your swimmer is unable to swim after the sign-up deadline has passed, please email the Coach(s) or text a Team Rep to let them know.
Connie Mack. 757-376-7571
Coaches must swap entries with the opposing team prior to the meet so it is necessary to complete them in advance. When your swimmer does not attend the meet (and we do not know in advance of the absence) the opportunity for improvement is lost.
At each meet, a volunteer will be assigned to take attendance. It is very important that swimmers check in with this volunteer so we have an accurate head count. Once the meet begins there are specific rules concerning event changes and YOUR absence could make changes impossible the morning of the meet.
All swim meets are held on Saturday unless otherwise stated. Meets begin at 8 AM sharp. For meets, swimmers are asked to be at the pool no later than 7 AM. Most meets last between 5 to 6 hours and usually end around 1pm (ish).
Each swimmer may swim a maximum of 3 individual events and 2 relays. To compete at the Marlin divisional championship, a swimmer must have competed in 2 dual meets.
Swimmers are encouraged to wear their team suit at every swim meet and wear a Piranha swim cap when they race for a professional look.
Meet Schedule:
mixed gender freestyle relays
freestyle
breastroke
individual medley (IM)
backstroke
butterfly
same sex freestyle relays
15-18 mixed gender 200-meter medley relay
What should I bring to a swim meet?
- Goggles – and an extra pair if you have them
- Piranha Swim Cap
- Towels
- Water bottle and snacks
- Sunscreen – apply often!
- Insect repellent – especially for our night meet(s)!
- Chairs and Tents
- Sharpie- to write swimmers events, heats and lanes on their arms or legs.
- Activities – music, books, games, cards
Can I set up a tent the night before?
Yes, only after set has been completed and set up crew/board members have set up their tents.
Do I really need to get to the pool as early as the coach said?
Yes! You need to get to the pool on time so your swimmer can warm up with the team, figure out his event/heat/lane information, and set up your spot for the day.
How will my swimmer know what events he/she is swimming?
The coaches will post the entries and email them about 24 hours before the meet. The heat sheet (which you will need Saturday morning) includes the specific event, heat and lane information your child will be swimming for the meet. Swimmers make a grid on their arms or legs with a sharpie marker to help keep them organized for the meet. (event, heat, lane)

Where can I find my swimmer’s times?
During home meets, event results will be posted as they become available on the outside wall of the clubhouse during home meets. Coaches will email results out within 24hours of the meet. You can also download the SwimTopia app to see live results!
Do we need to stay for the entire meet?
We encourage all families to stay for the entire meet so that the swimmers can support their teammates. If you need to leave early, please let one of the coaches or team reps know so that they don't put your swimmer in as a sub for the final relays.
Inclement Weather Policy
If the weather is bad, come to the pool anyway. If the meet is cancelled the coaches and Team Reps will alert parents and swimmers as soon as possible. We will send an email, put a post on Facebook, and send a message through the Remind App.
The VBSL strongly recommends waiting one hour before calling a swim meet. The team representatives, coaches, and meet referee will make a decision to postpone the meet for later the day or reschedule on another day. Before you leave the meet you must talk to one of the coaches. The coaching staff will need to know if your swimmer/s is available to swim during the rescheduled meet time.
